in the garden

Some things in the garden are waking and some things need a little more time.

backyard tree textures

I read an article in Country Living magazine about the beauty of tree bark. I took a quick tour in my backyard and was amazed at the patterns that I found just on the maple trees. I'm planning on spending more time exploring many of the other trees and creating a collection of these beautiful designs.

color no color

There is a calmness in this neutral photo even though the fallen leaves create a chaotic texture. Color no color in our environment reminds me of two favorite times of the year, early spring and late fall. I will be watching for the fresh spring greens this week.

change

There once was a lot of graffiti on this wall. Now it's a wonderful abstract.

two by two

It is interesting to see two unrelated photos side by side.
Is there a relationship? Do they compliment one another because they are different? Are there any similarities? Can you create a reason why they are together?
I was wandering around blogland today and noticed a number of bloggers who are posting sets of photos, some that are related and others that are unrelated.
just noticing

green

It sure feels like a green week.
St. Patrick's Day and the first day of spring all in one week.
Here's a couple of the green things in my week.
I'll be looking for more before the week is over.

Wonder what color will show up next week?

Here's a photo from two years ago. Yes it can snow in the middle of March around here, sometimes even later.

lucky 13

It only took a little phone call from a friend to get me out for a walk today and look what we discovered as we strolled over to the Barton Dam. The gates were wide open, the Huron was rushing and the temperature was just right to create the most spectacular ice jewels that glistened in the sun. What a treat for Friday the 13th.

place

While visiting southern California in 2007 we were awed by the cloud bank over the Pacific. It seems so threatening and yet so luminous.

single gloves

I always spot a lost glove. There are many out in the world. It always makes me pause for a minute and speculate about the owner.

memory

This bottle came home in my carry on luggage. It was empty and in the center of my 21 inch bag. At the security check in the Charles De Gaulle airport the young lady asked in an incredulous voice ...Do zee have a bottle in des bag? Needless to say I had to unpack most of the bag and show her the empty bottle. She didn't have any questions after seeing it.
Now I use it as a vase for single stems and it always reminds me of the laughs we had in our beautiful short visit to Paris.

a breath of fresh air

Today was a perfect Friday.
A great day to go shooting with my bff.
We met at one of our favorite spots... the UofM Botanical gardens.

We even brought along a new friend who also enjoyed the warm afternoon temperatures.

Now that's what I call a breath of fresh air...
sunshine,
warm breezes
and lots of laughs.
:: a great day ::

Kitchen tools are one of my favorite subjects for my photography.
I call it object portraits.

craft day 2008

The day after Thanksgiving some people go shopping while others have a family craft day. This year we made snowmen ... some sweet and some even 'hairy'.

mixed media photography

I have been exploring ways to use my photography beyond the well framed wall print. Here is part of the piece I created utilizing a cigar box. It is titled 'no cigars'.
It can be seen in the AAWA Spring Juried Show being held at the AADLibrary in downtown Ann Arbor. Opening reception is Friday ..... March 7, 2009.
Lots of wonderful work in this show by some very talented artists.

France

We will return one day.
